The Philosophy of The Bahamas Catholic Board of Education |
 |
| The Bahamas Catholic Board of Education believes that all persons are created in the image and likeness of God, and that through the vehicle of its educational system that image will be enhanced. The Board further believes in the fundamental principles of Christianity and the teachings of the Catholic Church.
All Catholic teachings, therefore, must be rooted in the spiritual and moral precepts of the Church.
All teachers in the Catholic School environment must therefore be concerned with the spiritual, mental, physical and social growth and development of those persons entrusted to their care.
This concern is fundamental to the teaching and instilling of good Christian values into our youngsters as we prepare them to take their rightful places in our Bahamian community. |
All teachers are therefore reminded that each and every child placed before them is a unique person endowed with God-given sanctity and rights.
The Catholic School System therefore dedicates and commits itself to the following goals and objectives:
- To provide pupils and parents with the experience of a Christian community at worship, work and play, as an introduction to a complete lifestyle, which takes its meaning and thrust from Christian community life.
- To foster pupils’ growth in personal holiness and relationship to Christ by teaching doctrine and sacraments within the experience of the Christian community; by encouraging effective Christian witness of service to others; and by developing in students a concern for bringing Christian justice to the world, especially in the social order.
- To foster learning in the basic skills and knowledge in the principal disciplines required for effective service to others, i.e., comprehending and expressing ideas; identifying, considering and solving problems; applying learning in concrete, practical circumstances.
- To aid pupils in developing a strong positive self-concept, by providing a continually friendly, supportive environment based on respect for the person and personal feelings of each pupil characterized by understanding, gentleness, firmness and sensitivity to feelings.
- To develop understanding of and to foster participation in the Bahamian and world community.
To utilize new approaches in curriculum, methods and materials which will develop more effective learning styles (involvement, discovery, individualization, etc.)
