The Bahamian Benedictine Sisters
of
St. Martin Monastery
Celebrated Seventy (70) years of Existence
(1937-2007)

Sisters

1937, seventy years ago, three young vibrant Bahamian women set out in faith and courage to establish a new religious foundation of sisters. They did not know what the future held for them.

2007, eleven strong vibrant Bahamian women celebrated with the Bahamian Church 70 years of dedicated and committed service to the Church and society.

Fired by Faith, Heartened by Hope and Liberated by Love, these eleven vibrant and unselfish women of service celebrated with family and friends in songs of jubilation, with a Tea Party climaxing with a Gala Banquet under the patronage of our first Bahamian Bishop, Most Reverend Patrick C. Pinder, S.T.D C.M.G., Archbishop of Nassau.

In Archbishop’s congratulatory remarks to the sisters, he wrote “As the one remaining Benedictine Community here

Sister Agatha, Sister Jacinta and Sister Ena.

you are the leaders of a noble legacy. As you continue your daily discipline of work and prayers. May you be blessed in every way. May your presence be a blessing to all.”

These women fired by faith, heartened by hope and liberated by love vowed with God’s blessings and graces to continue the noble legacy.

As the song writer, Carey Landry wrote “...lead us where we dare not to go. Lead us on, O Lord lead us on. Be with us as we face new days…Fill us with strength, O Lord, fill us with hope. Fill us with courage to go on… Lead us O Lord, lead us on…”May those words of grace and peace be ours.  But may we be filled with hope… because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us just as it was to St. Paul whom we are privileged to honour this year.
